Charleston Chapter Military Officers Association of America
ROBERT J. LAHM AWARD

Purpose:Lahm Award
The Robert J. Lahm Award has been established to honor the memory of Lieutenant Colonel Robert J. Lahm (USAF, Retired),who served as Chapter Secretary from January 1997 to April 2003. Lt.Col. Lahm made many significant contributions to both the community and to this Chapter. The Award recognizes the efforts of an individual in providing outstanding service to the Charleston community and Charleston Chapter MOAA

1. Eligibility: Any chapter member (including Honorary) making a significant contribution to this Chapter and/or the Charleston Trident Community is eligible. Any chapter member may nominate a member of the Charleston MOAA Chapter, or a non-member in the following category, for this award. Eligibility will be considered for non-members, on a case-by-case basis, who have clearly demonstrated outstanding service regarding the purpose of this chapter.

2. Frequency of award: Annual or as determined by the Board of Directors, Charleston MOAA Chapter, but not more than annually. Nominations are to be submitted to the Chapter Director of Awards not later than 31 October of any year.

3. Selection: The Board of Directors shall meet at the call of the President and a quorum of 50% is required to be present, including the President or the 1st Vice President or the 2nd Vice President. Award approval shall be reached when a minimum of three quarters (75%) of those present at the session decide in favor of a nominee.

4. Recipient names will be added to a permanent trophy.

5. Award to be presented at pre-announced member function.

6. Staff actions required, including presentation of nominees to the Board and an annual reminder of the award to Board and membership, is the responsibility of the Director of Awards.

7. Restrictions:

(a) Sitting Chapter President not eligible.

(b) Normal duties of office performed by Board members are not deemed significant contributions and thus are not eligible for this award.

 

MOAA ROTC Medal Award
Throughout the years, the Charleston Chapter of the Military Officers Association of America has recognized the need for a strong ROTC program populated with bright young talent to be trained to lead our Armed Forces in the future. To that end, the Chapter established and maintains an Awards Program to recognize those individuals of the ROTC and JROTC in our area who show great potential for a military leadership career.
The criteria for awards are as follows:

An ROTC medal, (with service ribbon and presentation certificate), will be presented to one cadet from each service unit. The unit's senior instructor selects the recipient best meeting the following criteria:
The selectee must:
(1) be in the next-to-last year of the ROTC program - typically the Junior year.
(2) be in good academic standing.
(3) be of high moral character.
(4) evince a high order of loyalty to his/her unit, school and our country.
(5) demonstrate exceptional potential for military leadership.

MOAA JROTC Medal Award
An ROTC medal, (with service ribbon and presentation certificate), will be presented to one cadet in each unit. The unit's senior instructor will select the recipient best meeting the following criteria:

The selectee must:

    (1) be in the next-to-last year of the JROTC program - typically the Junior year.
    (2) be in good academic standing.
    (3) be of high moral character.
    (4) evince a high order of loyalty to his/her unit, school and our country.
    (5) demonstrate exceptional potential for military leadership.

MOAA JROTC Outstanding Cadet Award
The outstanding cadet of each unit will be presented a $50 monetary award. This award is to recognize the cadet deemed to be most outstanding, i.e., "Cadet of the Year", regardless of class year, cadet rank or other leadership position. Selection will be made by the senior instructor based upon criteria developed within the unit. The only qualification imposed by the chapter is that the selectee be in good standing academically and within the unit.
