Lt. Clifton R. Abbey, USN

Cliff was born in Montpelier, Vermont. He enlisted in the Navy in 1947 after school and attended recruit training at Great Lakes Naval Station in Illinois. After recruit training He was transferred to Electrical School and after completion of this school he was transferred to his first sea duty and served on the following 3 ships.

USS F.M. Robinson (DE-220)
USS Epperson (DDE-719)
USS Quincy (CA-71)

During his tour on the USS Quincy, he was assigned to Advanced Electrical School in Great Lakes for almost a year and returned to the USS Quincy when this assignment was complete.

Cliff followed his tour on USS Quincy with three years shore duty in Tacoma, WA

He then attended Submarine School in New London, Ct. and, upon completion of training he was assigned to the following Submarines:

USS Jallao (SS-368)
USS Bonefish (SS582) Commissioning Detail

He Nuclear Power Training in New London after which he was assigned to Nuclear Proto Type Training at Windsor Locks, CT. Upon completion of this training he was assigned as a crew Chief of one of the four operating crews for the next 4 years.
In 1963 he was commissioned as an Ensign and transferred to Portsmouth Naval Shipyard, N.H., as Funds Administrator for Nuclear work.

He attended Officers Candidate School (OCS) and was granted a personal interview with Admiral Rickover and was selected and assigned to the Division of Naval Reactors for the Atomic Energy Commission. His work was all classified and required that he work in civilian clothes.

In 1969 he retired from the Navy as Lieutenant. Upon retirement he was hired as a civilian employee by Portsmouth Naval Shipyard as Funds Administrator for Nuclear work and was promoted to Nuclear Production Manager.

Cliff retired in 1982:as a Senior Management Analyst. After his retirement he moved to Charleston, S.C and worked with M. Rosenblatt doing Electrical/Electronic Design in North Charleston until he decided to retire permanently.
