Colonel Steve Rowe served in the U. S. Army for 26-plus
years, retiring in February 2005. He held a variety of management
and leadership positions in communications, recruiting,
personnel and organizational development, major defense
program development, Coalition building, and General Staff
service.
Steve’s continental U.S. duty locations included Fort
Gordon (Augusta), Georgia; Raleigh, North Carolina; Fort
Bragg (Fayetteville), North Carolina; Crystal City, Virginia
(D. C. area); and MacDill Air Force Base (Tampa),Florida.
His overseas assignments included Camp Colbern, Republic
of Korea; NATO Southern Region HQ (Naples), Italy; NATO
Central Region HQ (Brunssum), The Netherlands; and U. S.
Army Pacific HQ, Fort Shafter (Oahu), Hawaii.
He served in war zones with the XVIII Airborne Corps during
the first Gulf War (1990-1991), with Multi-national NATO
forces in Croatia/the Balkans (1996), and with U. S. Central
Command HQ (USCENTCOM, 2001-2004), where he traveled to
numerous nations in Southwest Asia and Africa in support
of the Global War on Terrorism.
Over a third of Steve’s eclectic career was spent
in Joint or Combined/Coalition environments. From among
more than a quarter-century of challenging and memorable
duties, Steve considers his last two assignments as perhaps
his most strategically valid. While at the Army’s
Space and Missile Defense Command he helped develop and
document user requirements for the multi-billion dollar
Nation Missile Defense program (the follow-on of the old
Reagan-era “Star Wars” program). His last assignment
was at USCENTCOM, the multi-service U.S. command directly
responsible for military operations and engagement in the
Central Asian States, the Arabian Peninsula, and Northeast
Africa. He developed and implemented, at that headquarters,
an integrated U.S. and Coalition strategic planning and
assessment staff comprised of military officers from 20
nations, and served as its inaugural U.S. Deputy Director.
Originally from Owensboro, Kentucky, Steve is a Distinguished
Military Graduate of the Reserve Officer Training Corps
(ROTC) program at Eastern Kentucky University (EKU). He
has a bachelor’s degree from EKU, and a Masters from
the University of Oklahoma.
Steve is married to Sarah J. Barnhart, originally of Pamplico,
South Carolina. She is an MUSC graduate, a practicing Physician
Assistant, and is a U.S. Navy veteran of more than 26 years
of dedicated service to her nation, as well. They live in
Hidden Lakes subdivision, in beautiful Mt Pleasant.
Steve is now a firmly entrenched, shrimp-n-grits, Low Country
convert, and a full time realtor® in Prudential Carolina
Real Estate’s Clements Ferry Road office. He prides
himself in knowing that his consulting efforts and hard
work on behalf of his clients help them to achieve a piece
of the American Dream, right here in our little slice of
heaven.
